Christmas Traditions

With Thanksgiving just ending and all of social media posts changing right over to Christmas, I wanted to share some Christmas traditions that we have in our family. Maybe you have Christmas traditions that you've have done since you were little; if so, I'd love to hear about them.

We tend to have many, many, many Christmas parties to go to in the month of December and while those aren't necessarily a tradition since everyone has Christmas parties to go to, it is something that happens every year. A tradition in our family is watching "The Polar Express" every year on Christmas Eve. No matter how late we get home from church or how tired we are, it's always something we have done since the movie first came out.

On Christmas morning, we always read the birth of Jesus from the Bible then sing Happy Birthday to Jesus. We then pray, then open the presents that Jesus has blessed us with.

My parents had their own tradition as far as presents with my brother and I from when we were little tikes to when my brother got married and moved out. Every year our parents would create a code, for the name tags on our presents, that we would try to crack every. single. year. Were we ever successful... not really. They always stumped us but it was something that we always enjoyed trying to figure out.

So you're probably thinking... she said a code... what exactly does that mean? When we were little they'd label our presents such as Mickey and Minnie however my presents would be labeled with Mickey and my brothers with Minnie, One year they labeled our presents with reindeer. They chose six reindeer, so Austin and I had 3 different reindeer each. That one we for SURE didn't figure out. Another year the code was "XOXO" and "OXOX". I mean how in the world do you even try to figure that one out!??? Another year they just switched our names up on the presents ie. My presents were Austin's and vice versa. They had so many different codes and we loved trying to guess and figure them out. It was always something we looked forward to and couldn't wait to try and crack. If you have toddlers or even middle schoolers.. I would highly recommend switching it up a little this year and see if they can crack the code that you come up with! It made the special Christmas feelings last a lot longer on Christmas rather than just opening up the presents right away.

Do you have a special tradition(s) in your family that you do around Christmas time? If so, what are some things that you have enjoyed over the years? Feel free to comment them in the box below or on our Facebook page... I love to hear new ideas!

XOXO,

Lakin
